Nestled in between the Compassberg mountains in the Karoo, the small village of Nieu Bethesda, has become a cultural hotspot in recent years, with many South African artists calling it home. It was here that our friends Tom and Sarah invited us to document their wedding day, set in the middle of the dusty street that runs through the centre of the village.
Tom’s parents invited us for breakfast that morning and went out of their way to make us feel a part of the family and their celebrations. It was an absolute pleasure to photograph their wedding, from Sarah’s nervous excitement to Tom’s check cracking grin whenever he looked at his bride, their day was a reflection of everything that their love is.
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the amazing work of our friend Jacques Muller and his rustic venue Die Waenhuis that provided the perfect backdrop to Tom and Sarah’s reception. Authentic Karoo doesn’t even come close to describing his vision and hospitality. It was truly a bitter sweet moment when we bid our friends farewell, perhaps only saved by the blanket of stars that filled the clear night sky as they drove off on their new adventure.
