It’s difficult to not get excited when a wedding allows you to explore a new corner of your country. As summer slowly turned to Autumn we headed out into the winelands of the Western Cape to photograph Robyn and Gavin’s wedding in the small town of Wellington. From Gavin's majestic ginger beard to Robyn’s amazing smile it took very little effort for us to capture the love and beauty that these two exude.
For many men, being turned down once is enough to make them give up, however Gavin clearly understood the amazing woman he was pursuing as he did his best to brush off Robyn’s self confused friend-zoning six more times before she agreed to a date. Not even the fact that she was then currently half way around the world could stop him from packing his bags and jumping on a plane.
Their wedding was a true testament to who they are as a couple, and the kind of community they have around them. Everything about their celebration was built from scratch by the hearts and hands of the people who love them. Robyn’s passion and (slight) obsession with boxes was even present with the 2000 plus hand folded boxes that Gavin and his friends hung around the lawn of The Provence where they were to be married.
As Robyn’s father lead their ceremony, evoking tears and laughs in equal measure, we were reminded that a wedding doesn’t have to be small to be intimate, all you need is to be surrounded by friends and family that love you.
