On the outskirts of Uitenhage, just a stone’s throw from Port Elizabeth, the Klein Rivier farm has been a special place for the Roux family through-out Karlien’s life. Their holidays were often spent camping in the valley and hiking through the mountain gorge, so it was no surprise to us when Karlien suggested we take an extended stroll to find some beautiful spots for their photoshoot.
We could waste words describing the details of this amazing couple’s day, but what remained with us afterwards was the memory of two incredible young people, deeply in love, and the friends and family that couldn’t be happier to join them in celebrating their union.
There is something special about getting married in a place that is close to your heart. A place you have spent holidays with friends and family, a place filled with countless happy memories. And choosing a building that isn’t just a venue, but part of the community that you call yourself and your family part of.
Spending a weekend away in Nieu Bethesda on the outskirts of the Graaff-Reinet is always an absolute treat, and being able to capture Sarah and Wynand's intimate celebration, only added to our joy.
Choosing a quaint village in the middle of the Karoo might have seemed like a curious decision for a couple who fell in love sailing exotic coastlines, but under the beautiful forest canopy, you’d swear there could no place more perfect for these two!
Smiles and love streamed around the them as their closest friends and family showered them with confetti, and a local jazz trio kicked off the celebrations as everyone enjoyed the cool that a Karoo evening brings. Any chills were quickly forgotten as Sarah’s two MCs (and an endless supply of good wine!) had everyone roaring. Laugher and music echoed through the town as old friends celebrated this amazing couple’s love. We are so honoured to have been a part of this special day – and so excited to be sharing some of our favourite moments with you. We hope you enjoy :)
"And beauty is a form of genius - is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation. it is of the great facts of the world, like sunlight, or spring-time, or the reflection in dark waters of that silver shell we call the moon. It cannot be questioned. it has its divine right of sovereignty. It makes princes of those who have it."
"Home is home", this is something we always say to one another after a long trip, as we take our first step into our little flat- there is no place like it.
This sentiment was a big part of Robyn and JM's special day. After looking at many many many..... venues they both came to the decision that home is where their hearts belong, and for that reason it would be the best place to have all their friends and family celebrate their incredible wedding. Needless to say, their day was saturated in joy from beginning to end.
This afternoon is one of those days when we are so grateful to be able to share a taste of what we experienced, through these photographs.
Kara and Pietman’s day personified everything that a wedding needs to be; a gathering of all your favourite friends and family who want nothing more than to celebrate your love for each other. We could describe the rustic beauty of the barn, or the elegant, organic decor, but when you watched as they read their vows to each other, you would understand that for these two nothing else mattered except that very moment.
With the prefect winter afternoon setting in and the lovely Charon all ready to walk down the aisle to her husband to be, we couldn't help but feel excited for her. All their friends ‘oohed and awwed’ as her father walked her down the lawns at the Rose barn. The moment Roelf saw his bride we all teared up for him as (being the man that he is) he wore all his emotions on his selves.
You’d be hard pressed to find a happier bride than Lanice.
Her infectious smile is able to light up the entire room, and it was difficult to take a photograph where she didn’t look like it was the best day of her life. From the moment they met in the aisle, it was obvious that Daryn knew he had made the best decision of his.
Melissa and Eon may of met in another world all together, but their love for one another is evident everytime their eyes meet. We both were proud to be part of this awesome couples special day and share in the celebration of their love for one another.
Hands down, Amy and Kelvin’s wedding was the most spectacular party of the year so far! By the time we dragged ourselves off the dance floor our feet were dead but we couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces.
When your day starts with a swim in the ocean, and ends with an epic thunderstorm, you know it's been an awesome one. Brett & Ashleigh's bohemian wedding took us all around Port Elizabeth and the Eastern Cape and we loved everything second of it!
When your night ends with an amazing cover of The Cinematic Orchestra’s Build a home, you know it has been a great day! We had the privilege to document a fellow wedding photographer’s big day in little old Port Elizabeth.
